SANTA CRUZ
The Santa Cruz hike, located within the Huascaran National Park in the Peruvian Andes, is one of the popular and famous circuits of the Cordillera Blanca. We also passed through some traditional Andean villages. Most of the time, considering the opposite direction, our hike starts from the town of Vaquera, crossing on the second day over the high pass of Punta Unión 4750 meters above sea level, where the rest of the hike descends gradually. The Arhuay Valley and brilliant views, surrounded by magnificent and grand scenery all the time.

Day 1: Huaraz 3100 masl – Yungay – Vaqueria 4700 masl – Paria Camp 3870 masl
Travel time: 05 hours by car.
Hiking time: 05 hours approximately.
We will pick you up at your hotel in Huaraz at 6:00am then we start our trip through the valley of Callejon de Huaylas to Yungay. Here we will take the detour to the east side to enter the Huascaran National Park. On the way we will pass by the llanganuco ravine next to the Orconcocha and Chinancocha Lakes where the vehicle will stop to take some pictures.
Later we will have another stop at the Portachuelo viewpoint before crossing the pass. After a long descent we will arrive to Vaqueria, where our muleteers will be waiting for us and we will start our hike passing through the villages of Collo and Huaripampa and arrive to our campsite.
Day 2: Paria 3870 masl – Paso Punta Union 4750 masl – Taullipampa 4250 masl.
Hiking time: 08 hours approximately.
We start our hike at 7:30 am. Slowly we walk until we reach the Punta Union pass 4750 masl, where a magnificent view of the high peaks of the Cordillera Blanca awaits us. As the snowy: Taulliraju, Pucahirca, Arteson among other impressive views towards the valley of Santa Cruz and then descend to the camp Taullipampa.
Day 3: Taullipampa 4250 masl – Arhuaycocha Lagoon 4420 masl – Llamacorral 3760 masl – Llamacorral 3760 masl
Hiking time: 09 hours approximately.
We begin our hike after a good breakfast, with direction to the Arhuaycocha lagoon, passing by the viewpoint of the Alpamayo mountain and thus continuing with the ascent passing by the Alpamayo base camp, until arriving to the Arhuaycocha lagoon 4420 masl. After some pictures of the frozen waters of the lagoon, we start descending towards the Santa Cruz ravine with a view of the Artesonraju mountain and along the way we will pass by the Jatuncocha lagoon, until we arrive at the Llamacorral camp.
Day 4: Llamacorral 3760 masl – Cashapampa 2950 masl – Huaraz 3100 masl
Hiking time: 04 hours approximately.
Travel time: 03 hours by car.
We start with our last day. After breakfast we descend to the village of Cashapampa, during the journey we will notice the constant variations of vegetation and temperature. Once we arrive to the village we will have lunch and return to the city of Huaraz.
